Isabelle, you lost your sash

Isabelle, Isabelle,
you lost your sash,
alas, where did it go,
while swimming in the water;
Isabelle, how pretty you are!

English translation by Paul Archer of the text of Ysabel, perdiste la tu faxa by Alonso Mudarra (1510-1580) from Tres Libros de Música en cifra para vihuela, Seville, 1546.

Ysabel, perdiste la tu faxa

Ysabel, Ysabel,
perdiste la tu faxa;
héla, por do va,
nadando por el agua;
¡Ysabel, la tan garrida!

Recording. Raquel Andueza and Private Musicke (Pierre Pitzl).
