His translations of the Chieko collection of poems by Kotaro Takamura (1883 - 1956) are particularly well-known. The poems describe the poet's love affair with Chieko including their courtship, marriage, the trauma of her mental breakdown, and her death. The poems are remarkable for their confessional sensibility which has had a ground breaking effect on the course of modern Japanese poetry.

Paul is a graduate of Oxford University and has pursued a career in the UK, Europe and Japan. He currently divides his time between homes in England and Mallorca. His work has been published in various literary magazines and poetry websites.

He invites readers to contact him with their comments on the poems or translations.
