Life & Soul

Tonight there's a battle in the skies
Through windows cross-hatched
With shrapnel from the storm
We see clouds flared by lightning.

It barely breaks the conversation
Or concentration as we drink
And dance at the New Year's party.
Somewhere in another dimension

The people we might have become
Congregate, but we are allied
To the superfluous, the black centuries
Surround us with thunderflash.
