Nairobi Conference
In the comfort of its airconditioned chamber
The conference faces climate change
With words like 'urgent' and 'action'.
The Swaziland dancers and drummers
Perform on the hotel's new-mown lawns
In front of stiff lines of suited delegates.
Two hours away, the Masai are surviving
On their own, fighting their hunger, losing
Their
cattle in drought after drought.
In the hotel's garden the smell of sizzling beef
Rises with the smoke
from a barbecue
Of communiques and press releases.
